MicroSD cards are write-protected. The owner can, at his discretion, allow or deny recording on the card. Protection of MicroSD cards will help to avoid accidental loss of information recorded on the card, as well as save you from writing unwanted information.
Enabling protection on the card
To protect the memory card from writing, you need to use a simple built-in switch. The switch is located on the left side of the card adapter and is labeled Lock. The memory card adapter is a kind of adapter where the card itself is inserted. The card is inserted into a computer and other devices using an adapter.
Whether the card is write-protected or not depends on the position of the switch. When the switch is at the top, the card is open for recording. You can write information on it. You can also delete files from it, change and rename them.
To enable write protection, you need to move the Lock switch to the bottom position. The arrow next to the inscription indicates in which direction the switch must be moved to activate the protection.
How to find out if a memory card is protected
The write-protected card can be recognized by the computer and other devices. You can open the map with Explorer and see the contents. However, files cannot be copied to a secure microSD card. You also cannot delete files from a secure card. There will be no “Rename” and “Delete” actions. But it is possible to copy the data from the card and paste it somewhere else. The protected card cannot be used to speed up the computer using Ready Boost.
Additional protection method
In addition to the Lock switch on the adapter, the memory card can also be password protected. This requires a mobile phone. The procedure for the protection is as follows. Remove the card from the adapter and insert it into the phone's microSD slot. This slot is usually located on the side of the phone and is marked with the word "MicroSD" or a memory card image.
Search the phone for the name of the memory card. If the card is not named by the user himself, then most often it is recognized by the phone as NO NAME or simply “Memory card”. Select the menu "Functions" and then - "Functions of the memory card". Specify the "Set Password" action. Create and enter a password, click OK. Re-enter the password for confirmation.
After these steps, the memory card will be locked and not visible on the computer and other devices. A locked card can only be used on a phone where a password has been set.
To unlock the memory card, you need to repeat the steps, but select the "Delete password" item. You need to remember the password to remove it, so it's best to keep it simple to remember.
Some phones may not have a memory card password protection feature.
