If you have a CD-ROM drive lying around, you can make a CD player out of it. True, it will only be possible to listen to discs in Audio CD format. Therefore, it can be recommended primarily to those who have preserved a lot of such discs.

Instructions

Step 1

Take a stabilized power supply for a voltage of 12 V and a current of about 3 A. Connect the input of the 7805 type stabilizer to the positive contact of the block. Connect the common terminal of the stabilizer to the negative contact of the block. In parallel to both the input and the output of the stabilizer, connect, observing the polarity, across an electrolytic capacitor with a capacity of 1000 μF, designed for a voltage of 16 V. Shunt each of them with a non-polar capacitor to 0.1 μF. Place the microcircuit on the heatsink of a large processor. If you place the stabilizer facing you, with the pins down, there will be an input on the left, a common pin in the middle, and an output on the right.

Step 2

Take the output connector from the failed computer power supply. Solder the yellow wire to the input of the stabilizer, both black wires to the common terminal, and the red wire to the output.

Step 3

Connect the connector to the power input of the drive. Leave the interface input free. Turn on the power supply and try sliding the drive tray out and in. If it works, the stabilizer is working properly.

Step 4

If the drive does not have a play button, add one. To do this, turn off the power, remove the bottom cover from the drive, and then find the contact pads for soldering the second button. Solder two wires to them and lead them out. After making a small notch in the cover to prevent damage to the wires, bring them out, and then close the drive. Solder the button to the opposite ends of the wires.

Step 5

Turn on the power, insert an Audio CD into the drive, connect headphones or speakers, and then press the play start button. The first track will sound, and you can adjust the volume (for this, you can use the controls of both the drive and the speakers). Each subsequent press of this button will cause the transition to the next track. Pressing the tray open key will stop playback, and the next press of the same key will open the tray.
