A stationary (home) computer and a laptop have a number of differences: device form factor, different amounts of power consumption, different cooling systems, etc. In the process of constant work with the computer, especially at night, the noise emanating from the computer can make itself felt. It depends entirely on the operation of the fans inside the system unit.
Necessary
Passive cooling system, Speed Fan software, fan power supply circuit change
Instructions
Step 1
Laptops use a quieter cooling system. It works passively, it works with air intake. In normal working order, the laptop does not include a cooling system. As soon as the sensors register the approach to a certain temperature, the processor sends a signal to turn on the fan. The cooler draws in air and the overall temperature drops rapidly. A passive cooling system has many advantages: low power consumption, low noise level (appears only for a few seconds), etc. To install such a cooling system in a system unit, you will need a lot of money.
Step 2
Another means of reducing the noise level can be the installation of special programs that regulate the speed of the fans. Such programs have a graphical interface. The work of these programs is to programmatically reduce the fan speed. The fan speed is directly proportional to the noise level. These programs include the Speed Fan utility.
Step 3
The next means of reducing the noise level is to change the fan power circuit. You probably know that all fans are powered by 12 volts. When the power supply is reduced, the number of fan revolutions decreases, which leads to a decrease in the noise level. The power cable includes 4 wires: red (+ 12V), yellow (+ 5V) and two black (ground). In the standard power supply scheme, the fan is hooked to the red and black wires. When the fan contacts are connected with one red and the second black wire, the voltage is divided (12V - 5V). The result of this division is a voltage of 7V.
