Several techniques can be used to split a hard drive into multiple partitions. Unfortunately, many of them require additional utilities, but sometimes you can do without them.
Necessary
Paragon Partition Manager
Instructions
Step 1
If you need to create a new volume on your hard disk while working in a Windows operating system, download the Partition Manager program. Install it and restart your computer, allowing the utility to collect the necessary information about the hard drive. Now prepare your hard drive to create a new partition.
Step 2
Remove any unnecessary files that take up a lot of space. The point is that the new disk will be created from the free space of the existing partition. It is best to remove as much unnecessary information as possible.
Step 3
Launch the Partition Manager program and open the "Wizards" menu, the icon of which is located above the toolbar. Select "Create Section". Do not confuse it with the "Quick Create Partition" feature. In the menu that opens, activate the "Mode for advanced users" function by checking the box next to it, and click the "Next" button.
Step 4
Specify the border of two adjacent partitions in the area of which the new volume will be created. Click "Next". Now click on the graphic of the existing partition to be split and set the size of the new volume. Activate the function "Create as a logical partition" by placing a check mark next to the corresponding caption. Click "Next".
Step 5
Select the file system format for the new volume. Enter a label for it and click Next. In the new window, simply click the "Finish" button to confirm the correctness of the specified settings. Open the "Changes" tab and click on the "Apply Changes" item.
Step 6
If you need to partition the disk while installing a new OS, then wait for the partition selection menu to appear (relevant for Windows Seven and Vista setup programs). Click the "Disk Setup" button and select the partition that you want to split into two parts. Click the Delete button.
Step 7
Select the resulting unallocated area and click the "Create" button. Enter the parameters of the future volume and click the "Apply" button. Create a second local drive in the same way. Naturally, the deleted partition will be formatted.
