The procedure for disabling quick, or hot, keys may be required by a user of a computer running Windows for several reasons. The solution to the problem can be found by editing the system registry entries.
Instructions
Step 1
To block all hotkeys that exist in Windows (except for the Win and L and Win and U combinations), call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Run" dialog. Type regedit in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the Registry Editor utility by clicking the OK button.
Step 2
Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer branch and create a new DWORD string value with the value 1. Exit the editor utility and reboot the system to apply the changes.
Step 3
In order to disable all possible combinations of the Win key, return to the main Start menu and go to All Programs. Expand the "Accessories" link and launch the "Command Prompt" application. Type gpedit.mac in the Windows command interpreter text box and confirm launching the Group Policy Editor utility by pressing the Enter function key.
Step 4
Open the "User Configuration" link in the opened editor window and go to the "Administrative Templates" section. Expand Windows Components and open Windows Explorer. Select the Disable Windows Key + X Keyboard Shortcuts policy and select Enable. Exit the Group Policy Editor utility and reboot the system to apply the changes.
Step 5
To disable keyboard shortcuts in Google Desktop, go back to the main Start menu and go to the Run dialog again. Type regedit on the Open line and start the Registry Editor by clicking OK.
Step 6
Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareGoogleGoogleDesktopPreferences branch and create a new string parameter named hot_key_flags. Expand the created parameter by double-clicking it and assign it a value of 0. Exit the editor and restart Google Desktop to apply the changes made.
