It is impossible to imagine any desktop or laptop computer without a keyboard, because despite its solid history, this device for entering text information and controlling various computer functions remains one of the most convenient.
However, in some cases it becomes necessary to disable the keyboard. The reason can be both its malfunction (a failed keyboard can spontaneously generate pressing of any keys, making it impossible to work at the computer even in those applications that allow you to do without entering text), and the presence of an alternative keyboard (for example, when connecting an external keyboard to the laptop, it is quite logical to disable the main one to protect against accidental operation). Sometimes it is necessary to lock the keyboard to prevent children from accessing the processes running on the system.
There are several main ways to disable the keyboard:
- Physical disconnection. If for a desktop computer it is not difficult even for the most inexperienced user, then in the case of a laptop keyboard, a certain skill and accuracy will be required, although difficulties with disconnecting the keyboard usually do not arise either: in laptops it is also connected to the motherboard with a special loop, which is not difficult detect and disconnect carefully. When opening the laptop case, be careful: breaking the seals may deprive you of the opportunity to receive warranty service.
- Using the "rundll32 keyboard, disable" command allows you to lock the keyboard until the next system reboot. The command is entered in the command line (Start - Programs - Accessories - Command line) or the Run window (Start - Run).
- Some third-party utilities allow you to lock the keyboard, such as LockWin, which provides advanced tools for locking a wide variety of operating system functions, or Toddler Keys, which is specifically designed to protect your computer from children. The latest utility displays funny pictures and plays sounds on the screen when you press the keys, allowing you to entertain your child and protect information and computer applications from unauthorized use at the same time.
- Another simple trick can be used to protect the computer from children: keep another keyboard next to the computer, not connected to anything. It will allow you to distract the baby's attention for a while.
