Step 1
Before you start creating and configuring your home local network, find out the number of laptops and computers that will be part of it. After analyzing the received data, purchase a switch, router or router with the required number of LAN ports that are required for cable connection of computers.
Step 2
Install the purchased device in a place that is difficult for children to reach. If necessary, you can even hide it in a closet or other hidden place. Be aware that the switch needs to be connected to AC power, so don't hide it too deep.
Step 3
Connect all the computers and laptops that you want to connect to your home LAN to the network switch. To do this, use network cables. They can be purchased at many computer hardware stores. When buying, pay attention to the length of the cables.
Step 4
Turn on your computer and wait for a new local network to be detected. Open Network and Sharing Center and go to the properties of the new network connection. Select "Internet Protocol TCP / IP (v4)" and open its properties. You will see a window containing lines for entering the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS server. In this situation, you only need to fill in the first field. Enter an arbitrary IP address into it. To facilitate further work, it is better to use simple addresses, for example 111.111.111.5.
Step 5
Repeat the previous step on all laptops and computers connected to your switch. Replace the last segment (number 5) with another number. This is necessary in order for the future network to work correctly, and access to computers was fast and stable. In order to open the required computer and download information from it, press Win + R and enter the IP-address of the required PC, after putting two signs in advance. Example: / 111.111.111.6.
