A video card is a device that is used to display the results of the work of the system unit on the screen. For it to work correctly, you need to install a driver - a small utility that helps the system manage the device. To find a driver for a video card, you need to know its manufacturer and model.

Instructions

Step 1

Disconnect the computer from the power supply. Disconnect the monitor interface cable from the graphics card connector. Remove the side panel of the system unit by unscrewing the tightening screws. If you have an external video card, remove it from the slot by turning the screw and pressing out the plastic latches that secure it. As a rule, the model and the name of the manufacturer are written on the video adapter.

Step 2

If the video card is integrated, find the name of the motherboard model. Replace the side panel and turn on the computer. After booting the system, go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and see the characteristics of the video adapter integrated into it.

Step 3

You can find out the manufacturer in another way. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select the "Properties" option. In the properties window go to the "Hardware" tab and click "Hardware Manager". Devices whose model the system did not detect are marked with yellow question marks. Right-click on the video adapter icon and select the Properties command from the drop-down menu. Go to the "Details" tab in the properties window. The item "Device instance code" will appear in the list of properties window, and the code will appear in the lower window, for example, this:

PCI / VEN_1002 & DEV_9611 & SUBSYS_82EE1043 & REV_00 / 4 & 1FD4D60D & 0 & 2808

Step 4

To get information about the device model and its manufacturer, take a look at two pieces of code:

- VEN (vendor) - manufacturer, four digits next to it - manufacturer's code;

- DEV (device) - device, numbers - device code.

Step 5

Go to the website https://www.pcidatabase.com/vendors.php?sort=name and enter the vendor code in the “searchvendor” field. In this example it is 1002. After searching, the program returns the result: ATI Technologies Inc. / Advanced Micro Devices, Inc

Step 6

If you need to find out the adapter model, click on the manufacturer's name and enter the device code in the “searchdevice” field, in this case 9611. Search result: ATI RADEON 3100 Graphics
