Good thermal conductivity between the heatsink and the microprocessor depends on the condition of the thermal paste. After all, after drying, it loses its valuable physical properties, and good cooling of the microprocessor disappears.

Step 1
To replace the paste, first carefully remove all fasteners and disconnect the heatsink and fan from the processor. Pull the processor out by twisting and lifting the bracket up. Then, clean off the remnants of the old thermal paste from the processor and heatsink. Now take a flat-bladed screwdriver, apply an even layer of thermal paste to the processor die. The layer thickness should not exceed 0.3 mm. Now reinstall the processor, heatsink, and fan, and test your computer's performance.
Step 2
As for the laptop, everything is somewhat more complicated. The main thing is to open the lid to gain access to all the internal components of your laptop. The rest of the steps are similar to those described above. We'd better tell you how to change the thermal paste on a video card.
Step 3
So, turn off the laptop, unplug it and lay it on a flat surface, then remove the battery (required). To remove the cover, unscrew all the screws that are not immersed in the body. You now have access to the insides of your laptop.
Step 4
The video card is pressed against the radiator with four screws. Unscrew them, pick up the opposite edge of the card with your finger and pull upwards, then pull them out of the slot. Now we need to remove the remnants of the old thermal paste from the chip and the heatsink. First, the paste is removed from the radiator.
Step 5
When you are finished removing the thermal paste, wipe the surface of the chip to a mirror finish. You can now start applying new thermal grease. It can be applied both with your finger (you just need to wash your hands first), and with some suitable object. Rub the paste evenly over the surface to ensure that the paste is even and thin. In addition to the chip, there is no need to apply thermal paste anywhere else.
Step 6
Now plug your video card back into the slot. Press it down and hold it with your finger, then screw the bolts into place. After tightening the bolts, put on the cover and fix it.
