When assembling or repairing a computer, you cannot do without thermal paste between the processor and the heatsink. It provides contact between the two surfaces and cooling the main microcircuit. It doesn't take much skill to apply thermal paste to the processor correctly. The main thing is your accuracy and attentiveness.

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, you should decide on the purpose of the thermal paste. It is used to increase the thermal conductivity between the microcircuit (processor) and the cooling heatsink. In this case, the thermal paste itself has a low thermal conductivity, and it should be applied in a thin layer for a closer contact between the two parts. Thus, it fills the existing airspace as much as possible. When choosing thermal grease, try to avoid counterfeiting well-established brand names. If a counterfeit is applied to a processor, the microcircuit may overheat and break. Methods for checking thermal paste, as well as brands suitable for use in computer technology, can be easily found on the Internet.

Step 2

To apply thermal grease to the processor, use a soft cloth to clean the surface of the microcircuit from the remnants of the old substance. Do the same with the contacting sole of the cooler radiator. Before applying the main layer of thermal paste, you can rub the so-called zero layer of the substance into both surfaces, that is, after preliminary application, remove it. This way, the thermal paste will remain in the grooves and scratches on both surfaces and provide better contact.

Step 3

Squeeze a small amount of the substance onto the main chip. Some manufacturers advise applying the thermal compound diagonally across the processor to achieve a better smear of surfaces, especially in the corners. You need to smear it over the processor with a small, strong plate. It is not advised to do this with your fingers, but if you like it more, use rubber fingertips or gloves. The resulting layer of thermal paste on the processor should be thin.

Step 4

Apply a larger amount of the substance to the cooler sole and also distribute it evenly over the entire surface. After that, firmly fix the heatsink over the processor and press it down with the fastening locks.
