It is more convenient to watch movies on a large screen, and download, on the contrary, on a laptop. To successfully combine both, you can connect your laptop to a TV. In this article, we will describe traditional wired connection methods and new ones that are only available when connected to a SmartTV, which do not require the use of cables.
Instructions
Step 1
Most modern laptops are equipped with an HDMI connector or its more compact Mini-HDMI version. In this case, the easiest way would be to simply buy an HDMI cable and connect the laptop through it. This ensures the best picture quality. It is transmitted digitally without distortion.
Step 2
Older laptops only have a VGA output for connecting an external monitor. Some SmartTV models have this connector. It's called PC. You can easily find it on the back of your TV. In this case, a VGA cable will suffice. If the TV has only a component input (three RCA-connectors "tulip"), then you will need the adapter shown in the photo. You can also find adapter cables in special stores.
Step 3
If you do not want to use wires, then you can use a special program distributed by TV manufacturers. For example, Samsung calls it Smart View. If you connect your laptop and TV to the same Wi-Fi network, you can watch movies directly from your laptop to the screen of your SmartTV device.
Step 4
For owners of modern laptops built on Intel chipsets, there is another opportunity - WiDi (Wireless Display) technology. The built-in video adapter compresses the picture from the screen and transmits it via Wi-Fi to devices that support the technology. Out of the box WiDi is supported, for example, by some SmartTV models from LG and Samsung. WiDi source can be selected on these TVs. For the rest, you will need to buy a special adapter, an example of which is shown in the figure. In this case, you can connect any modern smartphone or tablet to the TV.
Step 5
To use WiDi in a laptop under Windows 8.1, you need to do the following. On the start screen, move the mouse to the right side of the screen and select the "Devices" item from the pop-up menu. Then the item "Transfer Screen" and "Add" Wireless Display in the Projectors group. Then follow the instructions on your TV and laptop.
