Getting into BIOS for the first time on a new laptop is not an easy task, given that for different models of motherboards there are special combinations for entering this program.
Instructions
Step 1
Shut down the operating system. Turn on the computer again, however, when it just starts to boot and a black window with letters and numbers appears, use the Pause key or the Fn + Pause combination. This doesn't work on all laptop models, but it's worth a try. If the download window is paused, note the text “Press F1 to enter setup”. Instead of F1, there can be the name of absolutely any key. This will be the command to enter the BIOS on your computer.
Step 2
If you are unable to view this text, try different combinations. Usually F2, F11, F9, Delete are suitable for Compaq. Try other keys as well, perhaps your motherboard model is more rare than the previous ones.
Step 3
Try to find the information you need on the Internet. To do this, find out exactly the model of your motherboard by going to the properties of the "My Computer" menu. In the window that opens, select the "Hardware" tab and click on the device manager button. Find your motherboard among them, it usually appears at the very top of the list. Rewrite its name to keep punctuation in mind.
Step 4
Open a browser, enter your motherboard model name in the search box and view the results. If you don't find the ones you want, search by adding other keywords. You can also view the specification of your laptop model and, using its labeling, get the necessary information, for example, on the manufacturer's website.
Step 5
If all of the previous steps are unsuccessful, try contacting HP technical support. Specialists should have the necessary information, given that most of their laptop models simply do not include instructions for them in their configuration.
