Many Microsoft Office programs maintain a Recently Used File (MRU) list. This function is designed to provide quick access to the files that the user is working with. There is no built-in method to remove this list, but it is possible to clear the list of recently used files in the Windows registry.
Instructions
Step 1
Run the program to be modified to delete the last used files and click the Microsoft Office Buttons button.
Step 2
Click the Program Name: Options button, where the program name is the selected Office application, and then click the Advanced button.
Step 3
Expand the link "Show the number of recent documents" and enter the required quantity.
Step 4
Click OK to confirm the application of the selected changes.
Step 5
Press the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "Run" item.
Step 6
Enter regedit in the Open box and click OK to launch the Registry Editor tool.
Step 7
Expand the branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Office / 12.0 / Common / Open (for Office 2007), HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Office / 11.0 / Common / Open (for Office 2003) or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Office / 10.0 / Common / Open (for Office XP).
Step 8
Enter the Office program you want in the Search In box. Each subsection of a specific program contains a section "Parameters", which includes a subsection "MRU file name"
Step 9
Select the MRU File Name subsection and delete the entry in the Value field to remove the list of recently used files.
Step 10
Repeat this procedure for each program to be edited.
Step 11
Open the File tab in the top toolbar of your application and go to Help to change the number of files displayed in the list of recently used files.
Step 12
Select "Options" and specify the desired number of files in the "Number of documents in the list of recent files" in the "Display" section.
Step 13
Return to the File menu to clean up the last used files and click the Recent Files button.
Step 14
Call the context menu by clicking the right mouse button on the field of the required file and select the "Delete unpinned elements" item.
Step 15
Click the "Yes" button to confirm the application of the selected changes.
