It is an integral component of most computer components, such as an optical drive. The firmware is stored in special chips available in electronic devices. The program manages the mechanics of optical drives, the power level of its lasers and the exchange of information with the system on which the optical disc recording program is running. Determining the firmware version will be required, for example, if the user wishes to update it.

Step 1
Download DVD-Identifier, which allows the user to identify the firmware versions loaded in DVD drives. The situation when the user does not know which optical drive was installed in the system unit of his computer at the time of purchase is not uncommon, so even a special application was created to solve this problem.
Step 2
Install the DVD-Identifier software following the instructions in the application installation window. Run the program and select one of the drive types in the application working window. In the middle of the working window there will be tabs, each of which corresponds to one of the drive categories, and in each of them the devices of the user computer found by the application will be marked.
Step 3
Click on the Identify button located on the right side of the central part of the application working window. The identification process will take some time - rather lengthy, if the user's computer has more than one drive, a Blu-Ray drive is installed, or the read head of the drive has problems writing or reading discs (the application tests this parameter too).
Step 4
Switch between the appropriate DVD-Identifier tabs to get the collected information about your drive. In the case of the most common type of drives - DVD-R / RW, the tab will contain information about the type of disc, its name and manufacturer, the serial number of the device, the desired version of the drive firmware and the speed of its reading and writing.
Step 5
You can copy the result of the application to the clipboard by clicking on the Clipboard button in the central part of the program's working window, under the Identify button.
