Microsoft Word 2010 has a built-in formula designer. It is accessed through the main menu. The functionality of the editor is represented by a complete toolkit for professional typesetting of mathematical expressions of any complexity.
Instructions
Step 1
Find the "Formula" section on the "Insert" tab of the main menu, marked with the Greek letter Pi icon. If you want to insert a formula from a template, click on the triangle and select the expression you want. To type a formula manually, click directly on the section button. The place for entering the mathematical expression will appear on the document page. It is highlighted by a frame that has a grip for moving with the mouse on the left and the button for calling the local menu on the right.
Step 2
In the design window, select the type of mathematical expression to be entered and, by clicking the left mouse button in the corresponding window of the template, enter the specified symbolic and numerical values. Select symbols by clicking the left mouse button from a special section located in the center of the editor.
Step 3
To enlarge a symbolic section, click the triangle located to the lower right of it. The advanced options window will open. Select the special character or Greek letter you want here.
Step 4
To insert plain text directly into a formula, click on the "Plain Text" button on the left side of the Formula window. In this mode, you can type any characters, including spaces.
Step 5
Select "Professional" or "Linear" modes, the launch buttons of which are located on the left side of the designer. The difference between these modes is that formulas are entered in several tiers or in one line, respectively.
Step 6
To align the entered formula, click on the triangle located on the right side of its window and select the required parameter from the Alignment menu. Text can be formatted to the center, left, or right.
Step 7
To save the entered expression, select the "Save as new formula" item in the local menu. To exit the constructor, left-click anywhere on the sheet outside the input window.
