Uninstallation of the Windows XP operating system installed over the previous version can be canceled by the user at any time before the process is completed. To do this, you need to use the "Cancel" button, available in each dialog box of the installer. This will return the system to the previous version.
Instructions
Step 1
Please note that reverting to the previous version of the installed operating system is only possible if the installation is performed as a system update. If a new installation was performed, you cannot revert to a previous version. A prerequisite for reverting to a previous OS version is that there is sufficient free space to save the deleted files. It should also be noted that only applications installed prior to performing the update can be retained by the system.
Step 2
Start restarting your computer and use the F8 function key to enter Safe Mode. Log on to the system using the built-in administrator account and open the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button.
Step 3
Go to "Control Panel" and expand the link "Add or Remove Programs". Find the line "Uninstall Windows XP" in the directory and expand the found item by double-clicking it.
Step 4
Please note that the inability to display the "Uninstall Windows XP" item means that you have to manually reinstall the original version of the OS. Take the opportunity to back up all important information stored on your computer before performing this operation.
Step 5
Confirm the selection of the required action in the system request window that opens by clicking the "Yes" button, and wait until the process of automatic removal of the operating system is completed. The computer will restart automatically using the original version of Windows XP.
Step 6
Manually uninstall the OS update if a special uninstallation folder is available. This procedure applies only to updates from Windows Millennium Edition and Windows 98.
