The main purpose of RAID arrays is to prevent data loss and increase the speed of processing data from hard drives. Unfortunately, the failure of one element of the array often leads to the complete loss of all important data.

Necessary

  • - RAID controller;
  • - RAID Reconstructor.

Instructions

Step 1

Before working with an invalid RAID array, back up the disks you are using. To do this, use the Acronis Disk Director program. Burn the DOS version of this utility to disk.

Step 2

Connect the required number of new hard drives to the system board to hold the copies of the array elements. Run Acronis Disk Director and perform the necessary operations to copy hard drives.

Step 3

Now download the Acronis Disk Director program. It has a set of functions sufficient for successful work. To successfully use this utility, you will need to know the features of the array being restored.

Step 4

Launch the program and expand the RAID Type menu. Select the type of array to continue working with. In the Drivers field, enter the number of hard drives in the RAID array.

Step 5

Fill in the fields in the Name column. Select those hard drives that belong to the array being processed. Pay special attention to the Block Size field. Enter the block size used previously. If you are unsure of your selection, do not change the value in this field.

Step 6

Now press the Open Drives and Analyze button in sequence. In the new window, highlight Run the Differential Entropy and click Next. In the next menu, set the drive sequence and enter the search size value.

Step 7

Click the Next button, wait while the program selects the algorithm for assembling the array. Click the Restore button and wait for the utility to complete. It is important to note that it can take several hours to fully rebuild an array.

Step 8

Remember that there are also hardware methods for restoring arrays. You should not resort to using them if you do not have a complete set of information about the previous state of the RAID array. Most often, such attempts lead to a complete loss of data.
