Reducing the size of folders in any version of the Microsoft Windows operating system has always been one of the most demanded tasks, since, as you know, there is never a lot of hard disk space.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the context menu of the folder to be reduced in size by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item.
Step 2
Go to the "General" tab of the dialog box that opens and select the "Other" option.
Step 3
Check the box next to "Compress content to save disk space" and confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking OK (for NTFS file system).
Step 4
Download and install a specialized archiver application WinRar (for the FAT32 file system) on your computer.
Step 5
Call the context menu of the folder to be reduced in size by right-clicking and selecting the "Add to archive" command (for the FAT32 file system).
Step 6
Reduce the size of the system folders of the operating system, provided the Service Pack files are fully installed, by removing the used installation files using specialized built-in utilities: - DISM / online / Cleanup-Image / SPSuperseded - for Windows 7; - cleanmgr.exe (Disk Cleanup Wizard - for Windows 7; - compcln.exe - for Windows Vista; - VSP1CLN.exe - for Windows Vista.
Step 7
Call the main menu of the Windows XP operating system by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "All Programs" item to perform the operation to reduce the size of the system folder.
Step 8
Expand the Accessories link and launch the Windows Explorer application.
Step 9
Go to the path drive_name: WindowsDriver Cachei386 and delete the% SystemRoot% DriverCachei386 folder (for Windows XP).
Step 10
Disable System Restore to reduce the size of the System Volume Information folder to zero (for Windows XP).
Step 11
Once again return to the main menu "Start" and go to the item "Run" to carry out the procedure for reducing the size of the folder for restoring system files.
Step 12
Enter the value sfc: sfc / cachesize = 10 in the "Open" field and confirm the execution of the command by clicking OK. By default, the size of the% SystemRoot% system32dllcache folder is 400 MB, and this action will reduce it to 10 MB (for Windows XP).
