The My Documents folder is the main element of the desktop. It provides quick access to other folders contained in it: "My Pictures", "My Music", "My Videos" and other folders created by the system or by the user himself. If you've accidentally deleted it from your desktop or from the Start menu, it's easier to get your My Documents folder back than you might think.

Instructions

Step 1

On the desktop is not the folder "My Documents" itself, but only its icon. The folder itself is located on drive C by default. To return the "My Documents" icon to the desktop, open the "Properties: Display" window. To do this, go to the "Control Panel" through the "Start" menu, in the "Appearance and Themes" section, select the "Display" icon or the task "Change the desktop wallpaper". If the control panel is displayed in classic form, immediately select the "Display" icon.

Step 2

In the dialog box that opens, go to the "Desktop" tab and click on the "Customize Desktop" button at the bottom of the window. An additional "Desktop Elements" dialog box opens. Go to the General tab, in the Desktop Icons section, place a marker in the box opposite the My Documents folder icon. Click OK to close the window. In the "Properties: Display" window, click the "Apply" button, close the window by clicking on the OK or X button in the upper right corner of the window.

Step 3

Considering that only shortcuts are located on the desktop, you can independently create a shortcut for the My Documents folder. To do this, go to the directory where the folder is located, click on its icon with the right mouse button, in the drop-down menu select the "Send" command, from the submenu, select the "Desktop (create shortcut)" item. The appearance of the folder will be slightly different from the previous one; nevertheless, it will provide quick access from the desktop to the files contained in this folder.

Step 4

If the “My Documents” folder has disappeared from the “Start” menu, right-click on the taskbar, select “Properties” in the drop-down menu, or left-click on the panel and press alt="Image" and Enter. In the window that opens, go to the "Start Menu" tab, put a marker in front of the line "Classic Start Menu" and click the "Customize" button. In the "Start Menu Contents" section, click the "Add" button. In the additional window, specify the path to the "My Documents" folder. Apply new settings, close the window.

Step 5

If you once moved the "My Documents" folder to another drive, and now you want to return it to its original location, right-click on the "My Documents" folder, select the "Properties" item in the drop-down menu by clicking on it with any mouse button … Go to the Destination Folder tab, in the Destination Folder Location section, click the Default button. Click the "Apply" button, close the properties window.
