Icons of programs, documents and folders on the desktop simplify access to them - eliminating the need to search for the desired object every time using the "Explorer". Almost all programs during installation create shortcuts for starting in automatic mode, but the operating system provides several ways to perform this operation manually.

Instructions

Step 1

Right-click the background image of the desktop and open the "New" section in the pop-up context menu. You need the second menu line from the top - "Shortcut". It launches the wizard for creating a new icon on the desktop.

Step 2

In the first form presented by the wizard, specify the full path to the object for which the icon is created - an executable program, document, folder, image, etc. Entering the path manually is inconvenient, so click on the "Browse" button, using the directory tree that appears, find the file you need, select it and click OK. Then, in the wizard form, click on the "Next" button to proceed to the next step.

Step 3

In the field next to the inscription "Enter the name of the shortcut", type the text of the signature for the icon and click the "Finish" button.

Step 4

The properties of the created shortcut can be changed - edit the signature, replace the image, add launch keys, etc. To open a form with all these settings, right-click on the shortcut and select the lowest line in the context menu - "Properties".

Step 5

The icon can be created without the help of the wizard, replacing it with the Windows file manager. To open it, select the "Computer" item in the main menu or use the Win + E keyboard shortcut. Then go through the "Explorer" directory tree to the folder that stores the file for which you want to create a shortcut.

Step 6

Right-click the desired file to the desktop. When you release the button, "Explorer" will show a small menu in which you need to select the item "Create shortcuts". The icon will be created with a default image and a caption containing the file name. All its properties can be edited using the form described in the fourth step. And if you just need to change the signature, this can be done even easier - click the shortcut and press the F2 key, or select the "Rename" item in the context menu. Then type a new signature and press the Enter key.
