EXE files are the main type of executable programs for Windows. Unfortunately, the Mac does not allow them to run on OS X. But if you have a Mac with later Intel processors, you can use a little Apple utility called Boot Camp to do this.
It is necessary
- - Apple Mac based on Intel processor with OS X 10.5 or later;
- - CD with Windows Vista, XP or Windows 7;
- - Boot Camp software.
Instructions
Step 1
Open Boot Camp Assistant. The startup file is located at ~ / Applications / Utilities / Boot Camp Assistant. Double click on the icon to start the program.
Step 2
Create disk space for Windows. Make sure you have enough installation space. Windows XP is about 1.5 GB, Vista is 20 to 40 GB, and Windows 7 is about 20 GB. Boot Camp Assistant will create a dedicated partition for Windows. Insert your Windows disc and click the "Start Installation" button. Your computer will restart and Windows installation will begin.
Step 3
Select the appropriate Boot Camp partition after restarting your computer, this is where the Windows installation will begin. Be sure to select only the partition you created in the previous step, and by no means to the regular Mac partition. Otherwise, all your data will be destroyed.
Step 4
Specify the type of formatting for the section. If you are installing Windows XP, you have two options: FAT32 and NTFS. If you are installing Vista or later, NTFS is your only choice. Next, the formatting process will begin, which may take some time, depending on the size of the partition.
Step 5
Run the Apple installer, install the necessary drivers and utilities. When Windows has finished installing, your computer will restart and start up a new system. It will look rather crude as it works with all default settings for now. Don't worry, Apple provides software for Windows too, you can install it later.
Step 6
Insert your Mac OS X disc and run the installer. Agree to the license agreement and make sure you check the box next to "Install Apple Software Update for Windows". Sit back and let the Apple install finish. Ignore pop-up messages or windows. After installation, click "Yes" to restart the system again.
Now you can install and run any Windows program on your computer by booting into Windows.
