Many laptop users face a problem - how to connect the Internet on it through a router? Of course, it is possible to connect it with a wire without any problems. But this is not entirely convenient. Therefore, it is better to take advantage of the capabilities of Wi-Fi technology, which is supported by almost all laptops and routers.

Step 1
First of all, at the time of setup, you need to connect the laptop to the router with an ordinary wire. Log into the control panel of the router by opening the address in your browser https://192.168.0.1, and enter the login and password to enter (it is usually indicated in the documentation for the router)

After that, enable the DHCP service and go to the tab for managing wireless Wi-Fi connections. Activate the service by checking the appropriate box. Create a new network by assigning a network name (SSID) and setting an access password, 8 to 13 characters long (also called network key).

You can also choose not to set a password, but then your network will be available to everyone, which is extremely insecure. To strengthen the protection of the created network from strangers, enable encryption - WPA is suitable for WindowsXP, and WPA2 is preferable for Windows Vista and Seven, as well as Linux.
Step 4
It is also recommended to activate the "hidden network" option - in this case, the network will not be visible during the search. Remember or write down the name of the network you created and its key. Disconnect the wire between the router and laptop.
Step 5
Now you can connect your laptop to the router using Wi-Fi. Turn on the Wi-Fi module in the laptop in the regular way. Wait until the system is ready for use (it usually takes 1-2 minutes). After that, go to manage network connections and use the Wireless Network Connection Wizard. If you have not enabled the "hidden network" option, then simply select it among those found by the wizard. If the option was applied, enter the network name manually. Specify the network password (key) at the request of the master. After that, open the properties of the connection you created and in the properties of the component "Internet Protocol (TCP / IP)" select the "Obtain IP automatically" option. Check your Internet connection.
