Recently, the so-called "gigabit" cards are becoming more widespread. As the name suggests, their maximum bandwidth is 1000 megabits. They cost several times more expensive than conventional cards, and buying them is justified only when the data transfer rate in the network exceeds 100 megabits per second. If your ISP provides this speed, buy a gigabit network card, otherwise a regular 10/100 card will suffice.

The manufacturer of the card does not really matter. As for the chips used in network cards, most people working with networks prefer Realtek products.
