Nowadays, you won't surprise anyone with multi-core processors. However, when installing a new processor or buying a computer entirely, it will still not be superfluous to check whether the number of cores in this processor corresponds to the declared characteristics.
Instructions
Step 1
First, use the Alt + Ctrl + Del keyboard shortcut to invoke the Task Manager. It is worth remembering that in different versions of operating systems, the reaction to pressing this key combination will be different - either the task manager window will open immediately, or you will be taken to the list of options for further actions - start the dispatcher, turn off the PC, exit the system, etc.
Step 2
Another way to invoke the Task Manager is to hover the mouse cursor over the taskbar area and press the right button. You will open a context menu in which you should select the "Start Task Manager" item. Both cases have the same result. Use whichever is most comfortable for you.
Step 3
Click the Performance tab in the Task Manager window. Pay attention to the windows with a black background and a green grid - these are indicators of the load on certain system components.
Step 4
Look at the indicators underneath the Processor Load History. Their number will determine the number of active cores on your processor. As you can see, it displays a graph of the load on the cores in real time.
Step 5
Download the CPU-Z program in order to get more complete information about your processor and each core included in it. Just install the program and immediately after starting you will see information about your processor. The program window tabs also contain detailed information about the installed RAM and video system.
