Often, when digitizing old audio recordings, the problem of background noise arises. Of course, you can cut out noise-filled pauses and replace them with silence, but that doesn't solve the overall noise problem. Special filters of the audio editor can help here.

It is necessary

  • Adobe Audition program
  • File to remove noise from

Instructions

Step 1

Open the song file in Adobe Audition using the Ctrl + O keyboard shortcut. You can do the same with the Open command from the File menu. From the Workspace drop-down list on the right side of the program window, under the main menu, select Edit view default.

Step 2

Get a noise canceling profile. To do this, use the mouse to select the segment of the sound wave between the beginning of the file and the beginning of the song. Usually it is this part of the file that contains the pure noise that you are going to remove. You can enlarge the image for convenience using the buttons from the Zoom palette. The palette is in the middle of the lower part of the program window. Press the Alt + N keyboard shortcut. Of course, you can use the Capture Noise Reduction Profile command from the Restoration item in the Filters menu, but the hotkeys make the work much faster.

Step 3

Select the entire file using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + A.

Step 4

Open the actual noise reduction filter window using the Noise Reduction process command from the Restoration item of the same Filters menu. In the Noise reduction settings, left-click on the circle to the left of Keep Only Noise. Click on the Preview button to listen to the noise you want to remove from the song. If you hear the song being processed along with noise, lower the noise reduction level by moving the Noise reduction level control to the left. Listen to the result by clicking on the "Preview" button. Click on the circle to the left of the Remove noise caption. By turning on playback with the "Preview" button, you will hear the result of applying the filter, that is, ideally, a song without noise.

Step 5

Remove noise from the song by clicking on the OK button in the filter window.

Step 6

Save the file under a different name using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + S. You can use the Save as command from the File menu for this good cause.
