Home recording is an attractive and promising process that allows you to record a song, voice greeting, or a podcast on your blog at home. The possibilities for home recording are almost endless. However, many people encounter unwanted background noise while recording sound, which is almost impossible to avoid if you are recording not in a soundproof studio, but in an apartment, using a regular dynamic microphone.

Instructions

Step 1

In addition to the noise generated directly in your home, there are noise generated by the electronic background in the cables and connectors of microphones and musical instruments. While the first type of noise can still be eliminated by recording in a room full of soft pillows, carpets and blankets, wearing soft shoes and hanging sound-absorbing materials in the recording room, the second type of noise can only be eliminated by computer.

Step 2

The best way to record is in the professional software Cool Edit Pro. When recording a track, make a small section at the beginning of the track, in which there is complete silence, so that the program records a sample of background noise, which it will later take as a basis, eliminating the noise in the background of the recording.

Step 3

When finished recording the file, open the Effects menu and select the Noise Reduction section. A window will open in which you can adjust various noise reduction parameters.

Step 4

On the track line, select the initial section, which contains nothing but background noise. Set the following values in Noise Reduction - FFT Size = 8192, Precision Factor = 10, Smoothing Amount = 1, Transition Width = 0, Spectral Decay Rate = 0.

Step 5

After that, click on the phrase Get profile from selection and close the window, applying the changes. Select the entire recording, open the Noise Reduction filter again and click Remove noise.

Step 6

To listen to only the background noise and determine if the particles of the recording itself have fallen into it, click Keep only noise. If the recording gets caught in the noise that the filter identifies, adjust it further. Click OK to eliminate noise.
