A firewall in the Windows operating system is a special system service that ensures the security of a computer on a local network and on the Internet. It is a standard add-on to antivirus software. Disabling Windows Firewall is not recommended by the system by default, but it can speed up your computer.

Instructions

Step 1

In Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2003, the firewall can be disabled as follows. Select the Start menu and locate the Run program. A small program window will appear in front of you. Enter the Firewall.cpl command (without quotes) in the special field to launch the application and click OK.

In the window that appears, on the General tab, select the Disable (Not Recommended) option, then click OK and close the window. Disconnect and reconnect to the network for the changes to take effect.

Step 2

On later operating systems such as Windows Vista and Windows 7, disabling the firewall can be done through the control panel. Open the Start menu and enter shell: ControlPanelFolder in the search box, then press the Enter key on your keyboard.

All the elements of the control panel will be displayed in front of you. Find the Windows Firewall icon and click on it. From the menu on the left, select Turn Windows Firewall on or off.

For each hosting option, select Disable Windows Firewall (Not Recommended), then click OK at the bottom of the window.

Step 3

If for any reason the services are unavailable (for example, no administrator rights), enter msconfig in the search box and press Enter.

The system configuration window will start. In the Services tab, find and uncheck Windows Firewall, then click OK. This will ensure that the firewall cannot start every time the computer is turned on.

In the dialog box that appears, select "Exit without rebooting."
