Instructions

Step 1

Try disabling the touchpad on your laptop using a dedicated keyboard shortcut. To do this, hold down the Fn button, which is located at the bottom of the keyboard, and one of the function keys. Usually this is F6 or F7. The corresponding key may have a touchpad icon. Pressing the same keys again will reactivate the touchpad.

Step 2

Pay attention to the area of the taskbar located at the lower right side of the desktop. There may be an icon for activating touchpad settings. Click on it with the left or right mouse button and select the corresponding menu item. Deactivate the touchpad by selecting the desired option.

Step 3

If the combination of function keys on the keyboard does not work, and the touchpad icon is missing from the taskbar, most likely the drivers are not installed on the device. Check for the installation program on the CD that came with your laptop or download it from the Internet. To do this, you can enter the name of your laptop model in the search engine and enter the additional word "touchpad". In the search results, you will see links to resources where you can download the desired installation program. Immediately after installation, the touchpad icon will appear on the desktop, and you can disable it using the settings menu.

Step 4

Check if advanced device settings are enabled if you still cannot disable the touchpad. Restart your computer and press the Del key immediately after boot starts to launch the BIOS menu. Find the Internal Pointing Device tab and set the option to “Disabled” or “Enabled” to disable or enable the touchpad. Save your settings and restart your computer.
