Many users have faced the problem of inoperability of the computer's USB ports. In some cases, this issue is resolved by a simple system reboot. But often it is more serious and can have various causes.
One of the common causes is a BIOS failure. To fix the problem, restart the computer, at the very beginning of its boot press the Delete key to enter the BIOS settings. Depending on its version, another button may need to be pressed, the most common alternatives are F1 and F10. If none of them leads to the desired result, check the motherboard instructions. Next, go to the Advanced section and check the value of the USB Controller item. If it is Enabled - the reason for the USB inoperability is not a BIOS error, if there is a different value - set Enabled and save the changes.
Another common cause is USB drivers not working properly. This can happen as a result of any system errors or crashes. Start Device Manager. To do this, select "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Device Manager", or right-click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop, select "Control" in the list, and then "Device Manager".
Find the "USB Controllers" section and click on it. If there is a yellow icon with a question mark next to one of the items, update the corresponding driver. To do this, right-click on the faulty item and select "Update drivers".
If the automatic update failed for some reason, install the driver manually. To do this, open the official website of the motherboard manufacturer and download the latest driver for it, and then install.
Another reason for the malfunctioning USB ports is the disabled Plug & Play service. To run it, select "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Administrative Tools" -> "Services". In the list that appears, find the Plug & Play item. If the Status column is set to something other than Running, set it.
If none of the above methods work, there is a high chance that the USB ports are burnt out. In this case, take the system unit for inspection to one of the service centers.
