The Russian search engine Webalta, like other virus-like programs (Delta Search, Guard Mail.ru), is installed on computers without the knowledge of their owners when downloading software from Internet sites. It is not always possible to remove such programs using standard tools.
How to remove Webalta by standard means
In the Control Panel, double-click the Add / Remove Programs icon. Find Webalta Toolbar in the list and click Uninstall. In the "Uninstall Webalta Toolbar" window, select the "Delete toolbars" checkbox and click "Next". After removing the toolbars, run the Add or Remove Programs option again. This time, in the Uninstall Webalta Toolbar window, check the box next to Uninstall from browsers and continue following the instructions.
Press the Win key, position the cursor on the "Find" command, select "Files and folders" in the drop-down list and enter * webalta *. Click "Advanced options" and check the boxes next to the items "Search in system folders", "Search in hidden files and folders", "View attached". Delete all files that contain webalta in their name. Thus, you will clear the system folders of your browsers from the start page of this virus: IE, Opera, Mozilla Firefox.
How to remove Webalta from the registry
Use the Win + R keys to bring up the program launch window and enter the regedit command. In the Registry Editor window, press Ctrl + F and enter the name of this virus-like system in the search bar. Select the checkboxes of the search conditions: "Section names", "Parameter names", "Parameter values". Delete the found file or folder and press F3 to continue searching. Remove all detected objects that contain webalta.
How to remove Webalta from browsers
The Webalta start page is registered not only in the system folders of browsers, but also in their shortcuts on the Desktop. Right click on the browser shortcut, select Properties and go to the Shortcut tab. The "Object" window displays the address of the source object, for example, "C: / Program Files / Mozilla Firefox / firefox.exe / home.webalta.ru". Remove everything related to webalta, leaving only the correct address "C: / Program Files / Mozilla Firefox / firefox.exe". If the path cannot be fixed, delete the shortcut completely and then re-create it from the browser's system folder.
In Mozilla, go to the Tools menu, expand Add-ons and uninstall Webalta. In IE, in the "Tools" menu, expand the "Add-ons" item and disable Webalta. In Opera, mark with the cursor the item "Extensions" and select the command "Manage extensions". Check Webalta and click Remove. After completing these steps, re-register the home page in the browser.
How to avoid infection
When downloading programs from web pages, carefully read the license agreement and pay attention to the default settings that are offered to you. Keep track of which items are ticked - this is where Webalta and other virus-like services are hiding.
