An operating system is a complex set of programs and components. Installing the wrong driver can lead to dire consequences in the form of problems with starting and operating the computer. The situation is complicated by the fact that some programs and devices load drivers into the system on their own, and it is difficult for an unprepared user to keep track of this moment of their work.

Instructions

Step 1

The easiest way to disable the launch of any driver is to uninstall it. True, not all drivers lend themselves easily to this procedure. Boot into Safe Mode. To do this, press the F8 button after the computer diagnostics page or the splash screen with the motherboard logo disappears. It's important to be in time before the Windows logo appears. If you did everything correctly, a menu with the line "Safe Mode" will appear. Select it using the arrow keys and press Enter again when the system asks you which version to run.

Step 2

When the computer boots into Safe Mode, open Device Manager. To do this, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties". The system properties window will open. In it, select the "Hardware" tab and click "Device Manager" (if you have Windows XP). In Windows 7, right-click on the Computer icon and click on the Device Manager link on the right side of the window.

Step 3

A dispatcher window will appear with a list of equipment. Double click on the device you want to disable the driver for. The device properties window will open. Switch to the "Driver" tab and click the "Uninstall" button. Close the window and restart your computer.

Step 4

If uninstalling the driver is not the solution, start Registry Editor. Registry operations are more dangerous than other changes, so watch your actions carefully. Open the Start menu, select Run (or Command Prompt at the bottom) and type regedit.

Step 5

This will open a window that resembles Explorer: two panels, the left displays “folders”, and the right displays the parameter lines. On the left side of the window, double-click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE label. A tree-like folder structure will open, from which select the SYSTEM line. The list will open, select CurrentControlSet from it. Find the line labeled services and double-click. A large list of system services and drivers will appear.

Step 6

Find the driver you need, for this you can use the search function by the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F. When you find it, click once with the left button on the left side of the registry on the desired folder. The launch settings and the path of your driver will appear on the right side. Double-click on the Start line - this is the option to start the service or driver. A window for changing startup parameters will open. Enter the number 4 in the "Value" field, this will disable the loading of this driver. Click OK to save your changes and close Registry Editor.
