Instructions

Step 1

In the abstract, a repository is a kind of network drive that contains distributions of absolutely all programs. What does it do? You do not need to store new releases on your hard drive, now everything will be at your fingertips (if you have the Internet). A clear plus of this method of downloading programs is your minimal participation. The application download window will appear on the screen automatically (after the arrival of new versions of programs).

Step 2

To configure the lists of repositories, click on the "System" menu, select the "Administration" section, then click on the "Application Sources" line. The list settings window appeared on the screen, in which there are several tabs. The first tab will list the official repositories that are in any build of the Ubuntu OS. It is recommended to check the first 4 items here. The last point is needed for those who do not have an Internet connection.

Step 3

On the next tab, you can add any repository or disk that contains software distributions. Click the "Add" button and in the window that opens, enter the copied line of the repository address, for example, https://ppa.launchpad.net/alexey-smirnov/deadbeef/ubuntu. Press Enter to add this address.

Step 4

The next tab - "Updates" - is used to schedule updates. It is recommended to set the value “Daily” in the “Automatic updates” block - every day when the computer boots up, your system will check all the lists of repositories. When new versions of products other than those already installed are found, the updated distribution will be downloaded and installed on the hard disk.

Step 5

Click the Close button to save your changes and refresh the list of all repositories. A window will appear on the screen in which a search for available versions of software products will be performed. If new versions are found, they will be copied to a temporary folder and installed.

Step 6

For a separate launch of the list update window, click "System", select the "Administration" section and click on the "Update Manager" line.
