Operating systems of the Windows family have the function of automatic updates from Microsoft servers. These updates are downloaded to one of the system folders and can be copied to separate media so that you do not have to download them again in the future. Also, installation packages accumulate over time and take up quite a lot of disk space, so they should be removed.
Instructions
Step 1
Updates in modern Windows operating systems are downloaded to the C: / Windows / SoftwareDistribution / Download folder. To find it, go to the "Start" - "Computer" menu. Click on the shortcut "Local drive C:" and go to the Windows directory, and then find the corresponding subfolders.
Step 2
Files stored in this directory can be copied to any of the storage media - to a USB flash drive, CD or DVD disc. If you need to reinstall the operating system, save these files, and after completing the procedure, simply copy the updates into the same directory of the new Windows.
Step 3
Over time, the number and size of files in this folder increase, which can affect the amount of free memory on the system. After installing all updates, you can clear this folder by deleting all files. Make sure all updates have been installed before uninstalling. Otherwise, Windows Update will download the removed packages again.
Step 4
To turn off the automatic download of updates that are downloaded to this folder, go to Windows Update. To do this, launch the "Start" menu - "Control Panel" - "System and Security" - "Windows Update". You can also type "updates" in the Start menu search bar and select the result.
Step 5
In the left part of the window, select the "Parameter settings" item. In the window that appears, select "Do not check for updates (not recommended)" from the drop-down list. Click the "Ok" button. Now new updates will no longer appear in the Download directory.
