By default, the Windows OS settings automatically update the system, drivers and other plugins. This is a useful feature, but in some cases you might want to disable it. For example, the computer is not connected to the Internet, and you are tired of closing the system request to update every time, or your Internet speed is low and automatic updates may not take up all the traffic on time.

Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect your internet connection. This must be done if you accidentally activate the download of updates. Click on the network icon in the system tray of the taskbar and open the "Network and Sharing Center" link. Here select the item "Change adapter settings", right-click on the shortcut of the network connection and click on the inscription "Disable". Now you can safely change the OS update settings.
Step 2
Go to the main menu "Start" and select the section "Control Panel". Find and run the Windows Control Center snap-in. If this item is not in the window that appears, then go to the "System and Security" section. As a result, you will see a window that will display information about installed and downloaded updates, as well as sections with various settings.
Step 3
Select "Configure Settings". Find the "Important Updates" section below which there is a drop-down list. Click on it and select the "Do not check for updates (not recommended)" command. As a result, the system will not automatically search for, download and install updates.
Step 4
If you have an Internet connection, then it is better to select the item "Search for updates, but the decision to download and install is made by me." In this case, the update center will not take up traffic, but will only inform you that the system can be updated. In this case, you will make the decision to download and install on your own.
Step 5
Uncheck the "Recommended Updates" and "Who Can Install Updates" boxes. As a result, only a computer user with administrator rights can install updates, and all downloaded files will be divided into recommended and important ones.
Step 6
Click on the "Ok" button to save the update center settings, and restart the computer so that they are registered in the registry. Then you can turn the internet connection back on.
