Some personal computer users use a password to protect their system, others do not, but this does not negate the fact that the presence of a password prevents unauthorized users from entering your computer. Especially, the presence of a password is necessary for work computers and laptops, which are at great risk of illegal penetration into the information of any company. Let's take a look at several methods to improve the security of your computer using the example of Windows XP.

Instructions

Step 1

Go to Start, then open Control Panel. Select the "User Accounts" section. In the user login settings, check if the "Use the welcome page" phrase is ticked. If you are using the Welcome screen, uncheck the box to increase the security of your login.

In the list of accounts, go to the settings of the user for which you want to create a password to enter the system. Click the Change Password link and enter your new password and then confirm it. Write down your password somewhere safe so you don't forget it.

Step 2

There is another way. This is a more sophisticated method and is suitable for more advanced users.

Open Start, then Run. In the line that opens, enter the cmd command, after which the command line will open.

At the command prompt, enter the following phrase: net user username password, where username is the name under which the account is registered on the system (for example, Admin), and password is the new password.

If the command line says “Command completed successfully”, then you did everything correctly and the user received a new password.

Step 3

For the third method, open Start and Run. On the Run line, enter the control userpasswords2 command, which opens the User Account Control window. You can choose any user and assign him a password of your choice.
