Disk encryption is enabled differently in different versions of the Windows operating system. But, being a regular OC service, the encryption service does not imply the involvement of additional programs.
Instructions
Step 1
In the Windows XP operating system, the encryption service is not specifically enabled by default, since it starts at the same time as the OS itself boots. To perform the encryption procedure for the selected folder or file, open the context menu of the selected file by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item. Go to the "General" tab of the dialog box that opens and use the "Other" button. Check the box "Encrypt content to protect data" and authorize the application of the changes made by clicking OK (for Windows XP).
Step 2
Bring up the main system menu of OS Windows version 7 to perform the operation to enable encryption of the operating system disk using the BitLocker n utility, go to the "Control Panel" item. Expand the System and Security section and expand BitLocker Drive Encryption.
Step 3
Use the "Enable BitLocker" command in the new dialog for the drive containing the system files and wait until the volume scan is complete to determine if the TMP module needs to be initialized. Follow the recommendations of the Data Encryption Configuration Wizard to connect the required module and wait until the system reboots and the message about initializing the security service for the TPM appears.
Step 4
Specify the desired method for saving the security key in the following dialog box of the wizard: - on a removable USB-drive; - in the selected file; - in hard copy (requires a printer connection) Confirm your choice by clicking the "Next" button.
Step 5
Apply the check box in the line "Start BitLocker System Check" in the next dialog box of the wizard and authorize the action by clicking the "Continue" button. Confirm the application of the changes made by clicking the "Restart now" button and check the implementation of the encryption operation in the status bar (for Windows 7).
