A paging file is a file on the hard disk that the system uses to store various data, such as parts of programs and files that do not fit in RAM. The balanced setting of the paging file can significantly speed up the system, thereby making it easier for the user to work with large programs (games, graphics editors, etc.).
Instructions
Step 1
We will give an example of setting up a paging file on Windows 7 (on all Windows systems, the setting is almost the same). To configure the swap file, open the system settings window - "System Properties". Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings (you can "get" to the system settings window in another way: just right-clicking on the "My Computer" shortcut and selecting "Properties").
Step 2
In the system properties window, go to the "Advanced" tab. On this tab, find the "Performance" block and click the "Options" button.
Step 3
In the "Performance Options" window that appears, go to the "Advanced" tab. Find on this tab the block "Virtual memory" and click the "Change" button.
Step 4
The "Virtual memory" window will appear on the screen, where you can enter the required values in the proposed fields for each disk in the system. After entering the required values, click on the "Set" button and the system will save the changes in the settings after the system is rebooted.
