Some file systems have certain limitations. For example, if FAT is installed on your computer, then you will not be able to write or download a file from the Internet to your hard disk, the size of which exceeds four gigabytes. You can remove the restriction on copying and writing files by converting the file system to NTFS.
Necessary
- - a computer with Windows OS;
- - Norton PartitionMagic 8.0.
Instructions
Step 1
Conversion option using standard operating system tools. Click "Start", then - "All Programs". Select "Standard Programs". In standard programs, click on "Command Line".
Step 2
First, we will consider the case of converting the system disk. To do this, at the command line, enter C: / FS: NTFS. If your system partition has a different letter, then, accordingly, you need to enter it instead of C. After entering the command, press the Enter key. A notification will appear that the system partition is currently in use, and the conversion will be possible the next time the system is started. Press Y. Restart your computer.
Step 3
After the reboot, the partition will start converting. After the conversion is complete, the computer will restart again. The next time you start it, you will have an NTFS file system. Accordingly, all restrictions will be lifted.
Step 4
As for converting other partitions, just put the desired letter in front of the / FS: NTFS command. In this case, a reboot may not be required.
Step 5
As an alternative to the standard method, you can use Norton PartitionMagic 8.0. Download it from the Internet and install it on your computer. Run the program. You will see a list of all partitions on your hard drive in the main menu.
Step 6
Click on the letter of the section you want to convert with the right mouse button. Select "Convert" from the context menu. In the window that appears, check the NTFS item and click OK. The file system conversion procedure will begin. The computer will restart and your file system will be converted. File size restrictions will be removed.
