When the computer is turned on, the user can observe which operating system is loaded. In the Microsoft Windows system, all this happens very clearly: the inscription "Windows Startup", the Windows welcome window, the display of the well-known Windows icon. But sometimes this is not enough and you also need to determine the version of the operating system. This can be done in different ways.

Instructions

Step 1

The fastest access to the information you need can be obtained from the desktop through the "My Computer" icon. If you do not see this component, configure its display. To do this, right-click on any free space on the desktop, select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.

Step 2

In the dialog box that opens, go to the "Desktop" tab and click the "Desktop settings" button - an additional "Desktop Elements" window will open. On the General tab, in the Desktop Icons section, check the box next to My Computer and click OK. Apply the new settings in the "Properties: Display" window, close the window.

Step 3

Now that the My Computer icon is displayed, right-click on it. Select "Properties" from the drop-down menu. In the System Properties dialog box that opens, go to the General tab. For operating system version information, see the "Windows version" section. After reviewing the data, close the window.

Step 4

The same window can be called in another way. Click on the "Start" button and select "Control Panel" from the menu. In the Performance and Maintenance category, left-click on the System icon or select the View Information About This Computer task. After finishing viewing, close the window with the OK button or by clicking on the "X" icon in the upper right corner of the window.

Step 5

You can get more complete information about the system in the "System Information" window. To open it, call the Run command from the Start menu. Enter Msinfo32.exe or just Msinfo32 in the empty field without quotes, spaces, or other unnecessary printable characters. The input is not case sensitive.

Step 6

A new window will open. Select the "System Information" line in the left part of the window with the left mouse button. In the right part of the window, in the "Item" column, find the line "Version". Opposite it, in the "Value" column, the operating system version and assembly will be indicated. After viewing, close the window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the window, or select the "File" item and the "Exit" command in the top menu bar.
