It often happens that removable USB drives contain data inaccessible to the eyes of users. It can be any hidden registry files, system files, information simply inaccessible to prying eyes, technical data about the media. Often, these are malicious programs that subsequently penetrate the file system of your computer and spoil data. There are several ways to verify the presence of such files on your flash drive.
It is necessary
- - a computer;
- - removable USB storage;
- - antivirus software.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the "Control Panel", select the "Folder Options" menu item. Open the "View" tab. You will see a large list of additional attributes for working with information. Scroll to the end of this list and in the "Hidden files and folders" menu, check the box "Show hidden files and folders".
Step 2
Click the Apply button, then OK. You can also find this menu through any folder open on your computer by selecting the item “Folder Options” on the top of the “Service” panel, then follow the algorithm described above. If you want to change the display mode, just check the box in the previous position.
Step 3
Open "My Computer" and then "Removable Disk". Hidden files on it will be displayed as translucent icons. If you want to change the display property of the file and make it visible, then right-click on it and select "Properties". In the window that opens, uncheck the "Hidden" attribute, click "Apply" and OK.
Step 4
If you are not sure that there are no malware and virus files on your USB drive, it is best to check for such at the very beginning of working with the flash drive. Any anti-virus software with up-to-date databases will do, but it is best to download the anti-virus utility Dr. Web CureIt. It does not require the installation process and when it is opened, a protective screen is launched, which prevents the spread of viruses into the boot sectors of the system. The virus scan results will tell you if your removable media has viruses and malware.
Often, even when the function of displaying hidden files and folders is enabled, they cannot be seen without special antivirus software, so it is better to always have such a program with updated databases at hand. Anti-Trojan programs and other utilities are also suitable.
