Hidden files may need to be viewed for a variety of reasons. Sometimes you need to make changes in the OS folders that are initially hidden, or hidden with your own hands. It also happens that a virus has visited the PC, after which the files are no longer visible, although the occupied space on the hard drive has not decreased. There are several methods for working with hidden data.
Instructions
Step 1
If the files are not lost due to a cunning virus, they can be seen by simply changing the folder settings. These options can be found by going to Tools or Folder Options. Check the boxes for "Hide system" and "Show hidden" located on the "View" tab.
Step 2
Correction of the system registry. The good thing about this method is that it can correct the consequences of the activity of viruses. Naturally, after removing them. To enter the regedit utility, press R + Win or the "Run" item from the "Start" menu. In the pop-up line, type the name of the utility. In the LOCAL_MACHINE branch, go to SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / Advanced / Folder / Hidden /. Correct the CheckedValue parameter by giving it the REG_DWORD type and value 1. Remove the REG_SZ parameter with the same name.
Step 3
Then on the CURRENT_USER branch go to Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / Advanced and do the same. In the Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Policies / Explorer tab, delete the NoFolderOptions and NoCustomizeWebView parameters of type REG_DWORD.
Step 4
Hidden objects are easy to detect using file managers such as Total or ERD commanders. You just need to install the software and enter the required folder through it. Hidden files and directories are displayed in a special way, with a highlighted color or icon.
