The main scaling tool of the Windows graphical interface is the function of changing the screen resolution. Other mechanisms allow you to change the scale of a part of the screen for a short time ("magnifier"), increase or decrease the fonts in the interface ("scaling fonts"), etc. But only switching the screen resolution is intended to change the scale of absolutely all interface elements on a permanent basis.
Instructions
Step 1
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, start the procedure for changing the resolution by right-clicking on the desktop background, free of shortcuts. OS will show the context menu, which will contain the desired item ("Screen resolution") - click it. A screen settings window will open with the "Resolution" caption placed in it and a button with a drop-down list next to it. Click this button, and you will get access to the slider, moving which with the left mouse button you need to select one of the screen resolution options. Since the matrix of the monitor is made counting on a certain resolution, and all the others are “non-native” for it, one of the marks on the slider is marked with the inscription “Recommended”.
Step 2
In Windows XP, after clicking the desktop background with the right mouse button, you will not find the "Screen resolution" line in the context menu. But there is an item "Properties" - select it. A window of screen settings with several tabs will open, among which you need to select the "Parameters" tab.
Step 3
Look for the slider for choosing screen resolution options in the lower left corner of this tab. Use it to set the desired value and click the "Apply" button. The OS will give you the opportunity to evaluate the selected option by changing the resolution for a short period (15 seconds). In this case, a dialog box with a timer and two buttons will be present on the screen. If the selected option changes the scale exactly the way you want, press the "Yes" button until the timer is reset. If the new scale turns out to be unsuitable for you, just wait for the timer to expire and the OS will undo the change made to the resolution. Using this mechanism, select the most optimal scale of the Windows graphical interface elements.
Step 4
If the list of resolution options consists of only two or three values, then this is an indication that the operating system is using the "base" video card driver. You need to independently install the driver corresponding to the version of the video card installed in your computer.
