Sooner or later, any person who is engaged in Internet projects has an idea to create his own server. And here you can stumble upon pitfalls, because the architecture of the server should be different from the architecture of an ordinary home computer.
It is necessary
Case with power supply, motherboard, processor, coolers, RAM, hard drives
Instructions
Step 1
Before assembling the server, you need to decide whether to take a case or a platform. The platform is a special adapted motherboard and the case itself. For a more suitable assembly, it is better to buy a case with a power supply and separate contents for it.
Step 2
The power supply must be at least 350-400W in order for it to withstand the load (if the server has 4 hard drives, it will be at least 400W).
Step 3
After installing the power supply, select the motherboard. The board must be a server board, because in its structure, it differs from boards for home computers (more ceramics for cooling and removing excess electricity). Server boards sometimes have more network ports and SATA connectors. When choosing a board for a server, it is necessary to choose models in which the memory is located perpendicular to the case wall. This contributes to better cooling.
Step 4
Next, you should select a processor for the motherboard (by socket number) and a cooler. The cooler should be selected for blowing out hot air - a cooler for the server will blow out hot air vertically, and not sideways. When installing the cooler, you need to apply thermal paste between the heatsink and the processor. The radiator is installed with ribs perpendicular to the rear wall of the case so that it can be blown by other coolers.
Step 5
Next, RAM is installed, preferably at least 4 gigabytes for standard needs and less load. Then hard drives of the required size are installed. For security and information protection, it is advisable to combine several hard drives into a RAID array. If necessary, connect a CD-ROM. The server is ready.
