Swf file is a set of graphics elements, animations, sounds and scripts compiled by a special program into one file. Most often this format is used in web construction and is called by one general word "flash" (swf is short for ShockWave Flash). In addition to elements of Internet pages, swf files often contain simple interactive games that can be run as standalone applications.

Step 1
Use a regular browser if you just need to run the swf file for execution, since most of them have plugins installed by default for playing flash movies. If such a plug-in is not yet installed in your Internet browser, then when you download the swf file, the application will offer to do this and indicate the link where you should go to do this. You can download and install the plug-in in manual mode - use the corresponding page on the manufacturer's website
Step 2
Open the swf file in any hex editor if you need access to the compiled code of this file. This hexadecimal editor allows you to view and change the file code exactly as it is stored on the media in your computer. For example, it can be Cygnus Hex Editor, a free version of which can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website - https://softcircuits.com/cygnus/fe/. This program has a very simple interface and does not require installation.
Step 3
Decompile the swf file if you need to extract its constituent elements - graphics, scripts, sounds, etc. This can be done using special decompiler programs that are easy to find on the Internet. For example, Sothink SWF Decompiler is very popular among applications of this kind. Once installed, this program integrates into your browser and allows you to extract flash files from web pages and save them. Saved swf files can be decompiled, and then either save all the constituent elements, or make changes and compile the edited version, or save the entire set as a source - a file with the fla extension. The sources can later be edited with a regular flash editor.
