The paging file is required by the operating system to compensate for the lack of RAM. The presence of this file allows you to store certain data not in RAM, but on the hard disk. Correct swap file configuration can significantly improve PC performance.

Step 1
Initially, the paging file is not permanently limited in size. It is filled with information as needed and cleared after loading this information into RAM. To speed up the computer, it is recommended to set a static paging file size. Open the Start menu and hover over Settings. Select the "Control Panel" menu and open the "System" item.
Step 2
After opening the window titled "System Properties" go to the "Advanced" tab. Now click on the Options button located under the Performance submenu. Select the "Advanced" tab and click the "Change" button located next to the "Virtual memory" item.
Step 3
Select the hard disk or its partition where you want to place the paging file. Now set the file size. To increase the performance of the operating system, set the same values for the "Original size" and "Maximum size". Click the "Set" button after entering the parameters. Close the work menu and restart the computer to apply the new settings.
Step 4
Use any disk partition on which no operating system is installed to store the paging file. To optimize the system operation with this file, it is recommended to create an additional section. Use the Partition Manager program. Create a new disk partition, which will be 3-4 GB in size. Format it by changing the file system of this volume to FAT32.
Step 5
Open the paging file settings menu. Select the new disk partition and enter the desired numbers in the Original Size and Maximum Size boxes.
