A convenient program for setting a password in windows is Password Protect USB. Despite the fact that the program is focused on working with USB drives, it works well with folders. Run the program as administrator and click the "Lock folders" button, the root directory window will open in which you should find your folder. Then enter the password and you get a locked folder. The only drawback of the program is that when you enter a password, it creates another folder of the same, but without a password. On the other hand, this protection is quite reliable, some programs simply hide folders.
AVG
One of the ways to block files or folders on a computer is the development of antivirus software companies. Everything is quite simple, just download their utilities to speed up your computer, one of these is provided by AVG, and in the settings you can find file blocking. It should be noted that such protection is several times more powerful than its counterparts mentioned above. It allows you to configure protection so that if you enter the password incorrectly, the folder will be permanently deleted from your computer. It is almost impossible to recover the file after such an operation. The only option is to use programs to recover broken and deleted files, but no one can guarantee 100% recovery.
