Access to the Internet for a group of computers united in a local network is provided by a special device - a router. The router obtains an IP address from the ISP, then distributes the internal network addresses to all users. To make this easier, Windows includes UPnP, which enables computers to automatically discover and configure devices for a local area network.
Instructions
Step 1
For UPnP to work correctly, the SSDP discovery service must be running on your computer, which finds UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) devices. In the control panel, expand the "Administration" node and double-click on the "Services" icon. You can open the Services snap-in differently: press the Win + R keys and enter the services.msc command in the program launch line.
Step 2
Find the SSDP Discovery Service under Name. Right-click on its name and select Properties. In the General tab, specify Automatic Startup Type and click Start if the service is not running. Click OK to confirm.
Step 3
Go back to the list of services and find the "Generic PnP Device Node". Call the context menu by right-clicking on the service name and set the automatic startup type in the General tab. Start the service.
Step 4
By default, these services are blocked by the built-in Windows Firewall. Go to the control panel and double-click to start the firewall. Go to the "Exceptions" tab and in the "Programs and Services" list, check the box next to the "UPnP infrastructure" item. Confirm by clicking OK.
Step 5
It is also necessary to enable the UPnP service on the router in accordance with the technical documentation that comes with the device. To call the dialog box, launch any browser on your computer, write down the address specified in the documentation in the address bar, and enter the default router login and password (usually admin / admin).
Step 6
In the Advanced dialog box, find the UPnP section and check the box next to Enable UPnP. If Firewall is installed and configured on the router, check the UPnP checkbox in the list of exclusions. Restart your router.
Step 7
Make sure computers connected to the router can "see" it. Expand the "Network Connections" folder. To do this, press Win + R and enter the ncpa.cpl command in the startup line. There is another way: go to the control panel and double-click on the corresponding icon.
Step 8
Check if the folder shows an Internet gateway device. Then, in the list of tasks on the left, click the item "Network Neighborhood" and make sure that the router is displayed in the list of devices.
