Many manufacturing companies produce a wide range of gaming devices for various purposes. These are traditional joysticks, button manipulators, as well as game steering wheels and aircraft steering wheels, containing many buttons for controlling all kinds of modes, levers, wings, pedals and other controls. All this richness of gaming requires a connection to work correctly in the Windows environment.
To connect the steering wheel correctly, you need to carefully study the attached instructions, especially in terms of connecting it to a computer. Most gaming device manufacturers supply them with CD-ROMs with the necessary distribution kit. It needs to be installed in your computer's CD-ROM drive and follow the installation prompts. But the Windows operating system itself is able to connect gaming devices with the help of a special utility. To use this method, it is necessary to connect the steering wheel to the corresponding port of the computer using the supplied connecting wires. Then, sequentially, using the mouse, execute the following commands: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Printers and other equipment" - "Gaming devices". The Game Controllers dialog box appears on the screen. The Installed Game Controllers field will be blank by default. Click the "Add" button. A new window "Add a gaming device" will present a large list of well-known manufacturers and their gaming devices. When connecting a racing wheel for car simulators, pedals are often included. In such a situation, you need to select a manufacturer and additionally activate the "Connect steering wheel and pedals" function. If there is no installed model in the list, then you have to connect the steering wheel yourself. There is a "Other" button at the bottom of the window. Click it, and a window opens in which you need to specify the features of the gaming equipment: joystick, game pad, steering wheel or control of a racing car. You will also need to specify the number of buttons on the steering wheel and "Degree of freedom" - this is the number of directions in which the steering wheel or joystick can move. For modern car simulators and racing arcades, the steering wheel-adjustable function of switching the player's view - "view from the cockpit", "top and rear view", "top view" and "general view" will be useful. To do this, check the box next to the POV switch. To complete the steering wheel connection procedure, you must enter its name in the "Controller" field so that it is displayed in the list of connected equipment. After that, activate the OK button, and in the Game Controllers dialog box, also click OK. Windows will automatically finish installing the game device.
