The NTFS file system is the most optimal for Windows operating systems. In turn, FAT32 is already pretty outdated. Therefore, if you are still using this file system, then it is recommended to change it to NTFS. Also, using it, you can copy files weighing more than 4 gigabytes.
Necessary
- - computer;
- - disk with Windows 7 OS.
Instructions
Step 1
Follow the steps below to format the disk to NTFS file system. Open My Computer. Click on the hard disk partition with the right mouse button, then select "Format" in the context menu that appears.
Step 2
In the window that appears, there will be a section "File system". There is an arrow next to it. Click on this arrow. A list of file systems appears. Select NTFS from this list. At the bottom of the window there is a section in which you can select the formatting method. In this section, check the item "Quick cleaning, table of contents". Click "Get Started".
Step 3
A window will appear with a notification that all information will be destroyed. Click OK. The formatting process begins. As a rule, the duration of the procedure is only a few seconds. After formatting, the partition will operate under the NTFS file system.
Step 4
You cannot format the system disk this way. Therefore, it must be formatted during the installation process of the operating system. Before starting the operation, you should transfer all important information to another section.
Step 5
Since NTFS is best suited for Windows 7, this OS will be taken as an example. Insert the operating system disc into the computer drive. Load the BOOT menu. In this menu, select your drive and press any key. The disc in the drive will start. In the first window that appears, click "Next", in the next - "Install". After that, accept the license agreement and proceed further.
Step 6
Select "Full Installation". In the next window, use the left mouse button to select the system partition. Next in this window, select the option "Disk Setup", then - "Format". Since this version requires the system partition to run under NTFS, it will be formatted on this file system. Click "Next" and use the "Wizard" to complete the installation of the OS. The further process is almost completely automated.
