Hibernation has been around for a long time. In previous versions of Winodws operating systems, this mode was called hibernation. Windows owners can easily enable or disable it.

Hibernation Mode (Sleep Mode) is a special power saving mode. It allows you to save all the information contained in the computer's RAM to the hard disk before shutting down the personal computer. That is, it turns out that the computer shuts down in hibernation mode, but the information is immediately restored after it starts. This mode is available in all versions of Windows operating systems, starting with Windows XP.

Windows 8 has undergone many different changes, including the change in hibernation mode, which is now impossible to enable with a simple click in the menu. For users, by default, there is only a shutdown of the personal computer, restart and hibernation. Naturally, people accustomed to hibernation were puzzled by this fact, but the pressing problem can be solved.

Method one

First you need to go to the "Control Panel", where you need to find the item "System and Security". There will be many different settings, but to enable (disable) hibernation mode, you need to find the "Power" option. After the window is updated, in the menu on the left you need to find the item "Power button actions". After clicking, you need to select "Changes are currently unavailable settings" and check the box next to the "Hibernation mode". After confirming all changes, the following will be available to the user: Sleep mode, hibernation mode, shutdown and reboot. This item can be found in the menu on the right in the Shutdown field.

Method two

You can use another method. To do this, go to the "Start" menu and enter cmd in the search field, and then start the search. As a result, an application will appear that opens a command line, which should be run as administrator (right-clicking on the shortcut and the item "Run as administrator"). Directly in the command line, enter the following command: powercfg.exe / hibernate on and confirm the action with the Enter key on the keyboard. The command line can be disabled. As a result, hibernation will be available in the computer shutdown menu.

To disable the hibernation mode, you must repeat the same procedure, just uncheck the "Hibernation mode" item or enter the powercfg.exe / hibernate off command (depending on how the hibernation mode is started). It is worth noting one significant nuance, which is that in Windows 8, all information is saved using the kernel hibernation technology. Therefore, exit from the mode is much faster than in previous versions of the Windows operating system.
